Sarah

Sarah was a young, beautiful woman who boarded a slave ship called the Hudibras in 1785. Everyone stood in awe as she boarded the ship, like she was one of the most beautiful people they had ever seen. Besides her beautiful appearance, she was talented singer and dancer. She was given the name Sarah because Sarah is a biblical figure who is a princess, the beautiful wife of Abraham.  All of these qualities lead to her being a favorite on the ship, which the captain chose. This means she was given more favors than the rest of the slaves on the ship. She eventually became close to the captain which lead to some issues. As she was coming close to the captains and sailors, the slaves planned a revolt. Sailors found out about this and eventually the plan was shot down and the slaves were punished. She was blamed for giving tools to the slaves so they could break out of their shackles. Surprisingly, she was not punished and was eventually sold in Grenada to become a slave.

Evidence or resistance is the plan the revolt that was planned that somehow involved her. The slaves planned a revolt against the ship’s captain and sailors, but the slaves were stopped. Cruel punishments were given to the slaves, but Sarah was blamed for this revolt as well. She was blamed for handing out tools to the slaves so their shackles could be broken. She received no punishment for these acts, most likely because they were accusations and not confirmed truth.

I learned that the slaves were treated awfully, no matter what they did. They were often blamed for what they didn't do and they lived troubling lives. Even when favorites were chosen, they were blamed for any confusion. When the slaves did do something wrong blood was often spilled and they were badly hurt or in a lot of pain.
